What is Matcha?

Matcha has been ‘THAT GIRL’ lately as we see almost every IG influencer posting their lattes, more and more companies jumping on the bandwagon of selling it, and all types of recipes featuring this wonderful herb – and all for good reason.

Matcha is a finely ground powder made of green tea leaves that were grown in the shade – making it packed with antioxidants, chlorophyll, and nutrients. Matcha seems to be a magical herb as it has many healthy benefits and healing properties such as preventing cancer, heart disease, and diabetes 2 as well as boosting energy, providing mental clarity and calmness, and aiding in weight loss. The amino acid found abundantly in matcha, l-theanine, creates an “alertness” in the brain without the crash we get from coffee.

As with everyone else, matcha has become my obsession and not a day goes by where I don’t have my morning matcha latte or “potion” as Wholistically Hannah likes to call it. I love the taste and healing powers of matcha, so I’m always looking for new ways of nourishing my body with it.

One day, when I was really needing an energy boost, I wanted to consume matcha in an innovative way. I created and tested these amazing matcha white chocolate protein balls. They satisfy my sweet tooth and give my some much-needed brain juice, lol. Let’s make them!

How to Make Matcha White Chocolate Protein Balls

These are probably the easiest and tastiest healthy snack you will EVER make! All you have to do is mix all ingredients (except the white chocolate chips) in a bowl until everything is thoroughly combined. This will take some arm work to get everything mixed. If it’s easier for you, you can blend on low in a food processor. Once everything is combined, gently fold in the white chocolate chips. If you don’t want to use white chocolate, you can try dark chocolate chips, cacao nibs, or walnuts.

Next, simply scoop your dough into balls with a cookie scooper, I use a 1.5 T one, onto a parchment lined baking sheet. Once all balls are scooped out, gently roll into smooth balls and place in the fridge for 30-60 minutes. Once they are firmed, store in a container in the fridge.
